Dr. Cristian Constantin | Environmental Science | Best Researcher Award
Researcher at National Institute for Research and Development in Industrial Ecology, Romania
Cristian Constantin is a dedicated environmental researcher and PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the Politehnica University of Bucharest. With over four years of professional experience at the National Institute for Research and Development in Industrial Ecology (ECOIND), he has established himself as an expert in odor concentration determination using dynamic olfactometry and in modeling the atmospheric dispersion of pollutants. His career is marked by a commitment to advancing air quality monitoring techniques and developing innovative analytical methods to assess environmental impacts.
Profile
Education
Cristian earned his Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the Ecological University of Bucharest (2014), where his thesis focused on the use of remote sensing products for mapping Posidonia oceanica seagrass. He continued at the same institution to obtain a Master’s degree in Environmental Impact Assessment (2019), presenting research on municipal wastewater management. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the Politehnica University of Bucharest (expected 2025), conducting original research at the intersection of analytical chemistry and environmental modeling.
Experience
Since March 2021, Cristian has served as a Researcher in Ecology and Environmental Protection within ECOIND’s Air Pollution Control Department. In this role, he leads odor concentration analyses, coordinates sampling campaigns, validates methods, and oversees measurement uncertainty assessments. He has also developed dispersion studies using AERMOD View and trained technical staff in standardized procedures. Previously, from December 2018 to February 2020, he worked as an Environmental Specialist at S.C. KHASM Group S.R.L., where he performed site inspections, managed wastewater treatment monitoring, and prepared technical environmental reports.
Research Interest
Cristian’s research centers on quantifying odorants and pollutant emissions from industrial and municipal sources, with a particular focus on dynamic olfactometry and atmospheric dispersion modeling. He aims to refine analytical techniques for odor concentration determination and to integrate these findings into robust air quality assessment tools. His broader interests include the development of innovative sensor-based monitoring systems, emission reduction strategies, and the application of geographic information systems (GIS) for spatial analysis of environmental data.
Award
While Cristian has not yet received formal awards, his contributions have been recognized through invited presentations at national and international symposia, including SIMI 2023 and 2024 and the ICCE 2023 conference. His active participation in professional societies such as the Romanian Chemical Society further underscores his standing within the environmental science community.
